“UPROOTED” textile series is an interpretation of Eco-fashion and the vivid and organic colours that are produced by  

natural flora, pastures, mountains and beaches that are found within the Australian landscape. 

 

These fabric swatches focus on using natural alternatives to textile production in order to create designs that reduce chemical impacts. Outcomes are created through the use of recycled natural fabrics and yarns with natural dyeing processes and techniques. Uprooted is an eco-fashion swatch designed for spring/summer 2021 that is a visual narrative that embodies natural colours, melodies and forms of Australian landscape. 

 

The “UPROOTED” collection features the natural colour developed from cabbage, turmeric, and beetroot dyes with fabric and embroidery manipulation to outline and illustrate the dips, twists and complexity that the Australian Landscapes forms. The natural dyes produce these beautiful tones of indigo, soft and playful pinks, bold yellow, tints of orange and soft tones of organic green. Hand embroidery designs and techniques of fabric manipulations create intricate and 3D textures that represent the narrative of Australian landscape and its vivid colour and forms. Depth and mood are evident through fabric manipulation to outline the vibrancy of the natural dyed colour, fabric manipulation and hand embroidery markings on the textiles. 

 

This nine-piece textile spring/summer 2021 collection is aimed at engaging the audience to re-connect with the Australian landscape and to appreciate sustainable textiles and design to reduce chemical impact.
