THE PHILOSOPHY

 Sustainable Textiles    -     Eco-Fashion    -     Natural Alternatives

Natural Alternatives

I focused on using natural alternatives to textile production in order to create designs that reduce chemical impacts. All my fabrics and materials were 100% natural cotton fibres and I decided that I would use only natural dyeing processes. Vegetables and powders were taken from my kitchen and once the dye had been extracted, the food waste would be placed in my compost. Therefore, I was able to ensure myself that I was not allowing any harming toxins, chemicals or waste to be placed in the environment during my design processes.

I wanted to create textiles that take the environment into account and help foster change to the fashion and textile industry. Sustainable fashion is important in order to push the industry to greater ecological and social ethics. Changes can come from small designers as well as the big corporations, so I wanted to ensure that I followed the correct environmental ethics within this project and my work.  Therefore, I followed 4 main things to ensure I was being environmentally conscious:

  • Organic materials

  • Natural and by-hand processes

  • Recycling

  • Minimising waste
